Mahoosuc Land Trust to hear ‘Day in life of ocean swimmer’ April 18

Apr. 32018

BETHEL — Todd Siekman will welcome summer by taking the plunge into 50-degree water, something he’s been doing his whole life.
Siekman will share his experience as an ocean swimmer at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Gould Academy’s McLaughlin Auditorium, 39 Church St.

Siekman began long-distance ocean swimming four years ago. He started swimming for two reasons — to support the Lifeflight foundation and as a means of recovering from brain surgery. He swims with anywhere from four to 13 others, ranging in age from 13 to 69 years-old; they are accompanied by up to seven kayakers. The typical swim is from 1.5 miles up to 5.5 miles, depending upon the day, weather conditions and ability of the participants.
Siekman’s talk is part of the Mahoosuc Land Trust’s “Day in the Life” speaker series, sponsored this year by the Norway Savings Bank. MLT is a conservation land trust serving the communities surrounding the Mahoosuc Mountains and has the mission of protecting and conserving land and traditional land uses.
