SKOWHEGAN — Tyler Ring of Cornville/Canaan Troop 403 earned Eagle Scout rank, acknowledged during a ceremony at the Carrabassett Masonic Hall March 24.
Approximately 85 people attended to see Ring honored, including Sen. Rod Whittemore, R-Skowhegan, and Rep. Joel Stetkis, R-Canaanm, who presented Ring with a U.S. Flag that had flown over the Maine State House, and a legislative sentiment praising his accomplishment.
Ring built a kiosk and sign for the town library as his Eagle Scout service project, leading Scouts and volunteers who contributed 120 hours of service in the effort.
Ring is planning to attend Kennebec Valley Community College for two years to study culinary arts. He is the son of Dixie and Robert Ring.
Representatives from the American Legion, Marine Corps League, the Masons and the office of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins attended and spoke at the event. Letters from Gov. Paul LePage, U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-2nd District; U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, and former President George H. W. Bush were read.
Troop 403 has an active program, including summer camp at Camp Hinds in Raymond, where Ring was an honor camper last summer. Skowhegan Police patrolman Dave Daigneault, who is a leader in Troop 403, served as master of ceremonies for the event.
