AUGUSTA — With the close of the 2017-2018 basketball season, several students at the University of Maine at Augusta women’s basketball team were recognized by the Yankee Small College Conference, as well as nationally by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
Additionally, UMA women’s basketball coach Jennifer Laney was honored as Coach of the Year by YSCC.
With a 21-4 overall (13-3 conference) regular season record, the Moose competed in the YSCC tournament and earned a place in the USCAA National Championships, making it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Villa Maria College.
YSCC Conference Awards:
Carmen Bragg, of Washburn, All-Conference Second Team, 10.9 points per game, fifth in assists, eighth in 3-pointers

Dominique Lewis, Fairfield, All-Conference First Team,seventh in points, sevenh in assists, first in 3-pointers.
Caitlin LaFountain, Topsham, All-Conference First Team, first in total rebounds, fifth in points, second in blocks.
Men’s team player, Dustin Simpson-Bragg, of Fairfield, was All-Conference First Team, third in points, seventh in defensive rebounds, sixth in blocks.

Under Laney’s leadership, the UMA women’s basketball team earned its third bid to the USCAA national tournament this season. The Moose were the Yankee Small College Conference Championship Runner Up in Elite Eight post-season play. This marks the third time Laney has received the Coach of the Year award, including 2011 and 2015 seasons.
Additionally, the USCAA announced the National Academic All-America teams at the National Championship banquet for the 2017-2018 basketball season.
The awards recognize students who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while competing in the USCAA. Also during the banquet, the USCAA announced its National 1st and 2nd All-American teams as well as its honorable mentions.
Bragg was named National Academic All-Americaa; Lewis Tas a National All-America honorable mention; LaFountain was First team, National All-American and National Academic All-America; Simpson-Bragg was Second Team All-America.
