TURNER — Turner Publishing, Inc. has announced the launch of its 18th publication, Midcoast Beacon. The name of the publication was selected from entries submitted by readers. The person who submitted the name Midcoast Beacon, Mike Alberico, of Topsham, won $100 for his efforts.
Alberico, a senior engineer at Bath Iron Works, said the name was inspired by Maine’s beautiful coast. A lighthouse draws similar parallels to a news publication as it symbolizes spreading light on local happenings. The “beacon” helps the community navigate in what direction to go by shining this light, clearly enabling the community to follow a safe path. He felt this to be similar to the mission of Turner Publishing, Inc. which promotes good news and serves as a connector to local events.
Turner Publishing, Inc. mails over 250,000 publication to Maine homes and saturates over 50 percent of the state of Maine with the “good news” found in its print publications and in its digital products including a news site that brings all 18 publications together for free online reading at www.turnerpublishing.net/news/. TPI also shares its good news in various social media channels including Facebook (www.facebook.com/TurnerPublishingInc/), Twitter (@@turnerpublishme) and LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/company/turner-publishing).
