BRUNSWICK — The Pejepscot Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the Morrell Meeting Room of the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
Guest speaker Kathleen Maclachlan will present “Use of Family Bible Records in Genealogical Research,” the story of an ongoing project undertaken at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.
In the project, staff and volunteers are making the vital records contained in family bibles and other family record books more accessible to researchers near and far through scanning and transcribing, followed by digitization. She will include tips about caring for these records in the home as well as give an overview of important concepts in the use of family record books in genealogical research.
Maclachlan has been working as staff genealogist for the past six years in the genealogy and local history sections of Skidompha Library. She began researching family history nearly 40 years ago, enjoying the proximity of the Massachusetts State Archives to Boston University, where she was studying. Now she’s helping others with their own research and introducing newcomers to the fun of family history. She is a member of the Maine Genealogical Society, Maine Historical Society, New England Historic Genealogical Society, Compton County (Quebec) Historical Society, and the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia.
There will be a brief social period with refreshments before and after the speaker. A business meeting will follow.
