Ukuleles, college planning, job search help on Waterville library February calendar

Jan. 212018

WATERVILLE — The Waterville Public Library has a number of events and activities planned for the month of February.
The schedule ranges from Rhymetime and Storytime for children and families, to college planning for teens, job search help for adults and a ukulele group for everyone.
On this month’s slate:

Ukulele group: A twice-monthly gathering for those who play and those who would like to. The group is informal, participants learn from each other, and they all enjoy strumming and singing a variety of music. Coaching is available, and there are instruments to try if you don’t have your own. The meetings are free and open to the public, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays Feb. 8 and 22.

Rhymetime: For babies, toddlers and their grownups, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Singing, clapping and sharing stories for children from birth to age 3.

Storytime: Family story time will be held Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, activities, puppet shows and other activities for the whole family are planned, and there will be something different each week — sometimes with special guests.

College planning: A workshop on the essentials of college planning and financial aid will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. Pre-registration is required. The interactive workshop touches on the four steps in the college process — admissions, financial aid, career and study skills. Register for the workshop at meoc.maine.edu/workshops/workshop-schedule/ or by calling 1-800-281-3703.

Job search: Two programs for those looking for a job or wanting to change their employment focus will be held. The Job Search Lab is for job seekers of all backgrounds, providing ideas to improve a job search, work on resumes/cover letters, and learn about education and training options available in the area. An appointment is not necessary. Staffed by Augusta Career Center, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education, and New Ventures Maine, the job search lab is held Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Appointments, however, are required to meet with an employment/resource navigator, who will be available at the library Tuesdays, 1:30 to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment with Dana Hamilton, employment/resource navigator with Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, call the library at 207-680-2603 or stop by the information services desk. For more information on the job search lab, call 207-680-2611.

The library’s program’s are free an open to the public. For more information, call 207-872-5433.
