AUGUSTA – Maine Sen. Rod Whittemore, R-Skowhegan, is inviting area students to serve as honorary pages for a day in the Maine Senate.
The second regular session of the 128th Legislature begins Wednesday, Jan. 3 and runs through April 18. The program is open to students from third grade through high school.
Whittemore’s District 3 comprises Anson, Bingham, Canaan, Caratunk, Central Somerset Unorganized Territory, Cornville, Dennistown Plantation, Embden, Highland Plantation, Jackman, Madison, Mercer, Moose River, Moscow, New Portland, Norridgewock, Northeast Somerset Unorganized Territory (includes Rockwood Strip), Northwest Somerset Unorganized Territory, Pittsfield, Pleasant Ridge Plantation, Rome, Seboomook Lake Unorganized Territory, Skowhegan, Smithfield, Solon, Starks, The Forks Plantation and West Forks Plantation.
As a page, students have the opportunity to participate in a legislative session, delivering messages and distributing documents within the Senate Chamber.
“This is a very popular program with young Mainers,” Senator Whittemore said. “In addition to helping legislators out during the session, they also get to see the State House and learn about how their government works. I would highly recommend it to any student.”
