‘Annie, the Musical,’ opens Dec.1 at Waterville Opera House

WATERVILLE — “Annie, the Musical” — based on the 1920s comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” and the 1977 Broadway musical — will feature a cast of more than 35 local actors at performances Dec. 1, 2, 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 3, 9,10 at 2 p.m., at the Waterville Opera House, 1 Common St.

The curtain rises on Annie, a young orphan desperately hoping to find her parents. Life inside the Municipal Girls Orphanage is hard, but Annie remains positive and looks out for her friends while plotting to escape and find her real parents.

Annie faces challenges as she goes on a grand adventure, experiencing some setbacks but making friends along the way — including a billionaire and the president of the United States. Annie the Musical will feature the popular songs from the Broadway musical such as “Tomorrow,” “Hard-Knock Life,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed without a Smile.”
