Oakland church kicks off annual ‘Adopt-a-Backpack’ drive

OAKLAND — Volunteers for “The Least of These” — a donation-based organization headquartered in Central Maine and operating as the ministry arm of Kingdom of Life Church– is looking for donations for its third annual “Adopt a Backpack” drive for the homeless. In previous years, around Thanksgiving, they have handed out anywhere from 200 to a thousand backpacks filled with warm hats, gloves, socks, water, flashlights, protein bars and so much more. The Kingdom of Life Church is located at 191 High St.

This year the goal is to hand out 500 backpacks to the homeless in Maine and across New England. If you are interested in donating, they are specifically looking for protein bars, cases of water, first aid kits and hand/foot warmers. Monetary donations are always welcome.
