SKOWHEGAN — The Somerset Woods Trustees have canceled the North Country Challenge, the Bingham-to-Solon run, walk and paddle that had been scheduled for Sept. 30.
The organization said that registration numbers were too low to hold the event. The organization is asking potential participants and supporters for ideas for the 2018 event.
“Let us know if you have any ideas and what type of event would help you decide to celebrate the North Country with SWT,” the organization said in a news release. “Another month than September? Talks rather than walks? Guided tours in smaller groups? We appreciate your ideas!”
The free 7-mile event was to be held along the Kennebec River, with runners, walkers and paddlers leaving at different times, with paddlers on the river and those on foot on the Long Trail. A picnic was planned for the finish in Solon.
