Artists sought for Shy, Novice and Closeted Art Show July 1 in Bethel

BETHEL — The Shy, Novice and Closeted Art Show — an event for those who want to show their art, but may be hesitant — will be held July 1, at 18 High St.

The show is for artists of all ages and abilities, using any medium, and is fun and low-key. It runs runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 1.

Those who would like to participate may drop art off at 18 High St. between Monday, June 26, through Friday, June 30. The show will accept one to six pieces, or a few more if an artist has a series.

Organizers recommend art be framed or have a sturdy means of being hung or presented, though they will do their best to display it, regardless.

Those submitting art are asked for a suggested $10 donation entry fee to help with cost of putting on the show. They are also asked to write or type type a one or two-sentence artist’s statement describing how making art influences their lives. The statements must be signed. They will be matted onto a board and displayed next to the artwork.

If the art is for sale, artists should price it by writing the title of the piece, if it has one, and the price. A 15 percent commission is taken to support the show.

Artists may also volunteer to help set the show up.

The show includes an artisan’s soiree at 7 p.m. Friday, June 30. Artists may bring a few friends and family, a handful of fresh flowers for bouquets and hors d’ oeuvres or a beverage. “Come meet other shy, novice and closeted artists and enjoy the opportunity to experience the beauty of the show in the twilight,” organizer Janet Willie said. “Truly a wonderful time to honor all that it takes to get a shy, or novice or closeted artist to show their works of art.”
