CVS Health Foundation awards grant to Brunswick Maine clinic

BRUNSWICK — The CVS Health Foundation — a private charitable organization created by CVS Health — in partnership with the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics has awarded a $20,000 grant to Brunswick’s Oasis Free Clinic to help educate and provide customized support to their patients with diabetes or prediabetes.

Busch Art Quilts exhibition, reception at Maine Fiberarts in Topsham

TOPSHAM — “Current and Coming: Elizabeth Busch Art Quilts” is on view at Maine Fiberarts through Aug. 15.
A reception to meet the artist will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, and the public is invited to attend free of charge.

Maxwell new Freeport Maine Players new executive director

FREEPORT — The Board of Directors of Freeport Players recently announced the hiring of a new executive director for the nonprofit theater group.
Janie Downey Maxwell of Cape Elizabeth is well-known in the Portland-area theater community, and has been involved in Portland Players and Lyric Theater as well as Freeport Players over the past several years.

Free Bath waterfront concert series begins July 14

BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center presents the Summer Waterfront Concert Series, beginning Saturday, July 14, at waterfront park on Commercial Street.

Reading with Joy the greyhound on Topsham Library’s July schedule

TOPSHAM — The Topsham Public Library will have a variety of July activities, including “Reading With Joy!”
The licensed therapy greyhound, and her caretaker Jeanette, will help anyone practice reading at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Behind the curtain discussion on ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is July 11

BRUNSWICK — Maine State Music Theatre will hold a panel discussion, “Peek Behind the Curtain – Beauty and the Beast” from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. The event is free and open to the public.

UMA extends reach to educate more Mainers

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta is expanding and making higher education more accessible to Mainers statewide.
After a revisioning process led by UMA President Rebecca Wyke over the 2017-18 academic year, implementation has begun to reintegrate eight University College Centers and re-establish a long-standing and historic relationship, fulfilling UMA’s statewide mission, university officials said.

Mid Coast Hospital skin cancer screening a reminder about early detection

BRUNSWICK — Each year, Mid Coast Hospital holds a community skin cancer screening aimed at promoting early detection and prevention of skin cancer. Offered at no cost to the public, this year’s event was held on May 19.
Of the 146 individuals screened, 29 had positive findings and were referred for follow-up care and educated on continued monitoring.

Lisbon Falls Maine student fulfills Colby-Sawyer internship requirement

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Abigail Curtis of Lisbon Falls is completing Colby-Sawyer’s internship requirement this summer with Midcoast Senior Health Center and CHANS Home Healtt and Hospice in Brunswick, Maine.
Curtis is a member of the class of 2019, majoring in biology.

Topsham Library photography exhibit continues through July 9

TOPSHAM — The current exhibit in the Crooker Gallery at Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road, is from the First Light Camera Club and will be on display through July 9.
The First Light Camera Club boasts a 70-member organization of photo enthusiasts based in the Brunswick/Topsham area.
