Maxwell new Freeport Maine Players new executive director

FREEPORT — The Board of Directors of Freeport Players recently announced the hiring of a new executive director for the nonprofit theater group.
Janie Downey Maxwell of Cape Elizabeth is well-known in the Portland-area theater community, and has been involved in Portland Players and Lyric Theater as well as Freeport Players over the past several years.

CLEMSON, S.C. — Bowdoin, Maine, resident Allison Louise Melcher was amed to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the spring 2018 semester.

Lisbon American Legion Post 158 celebrates member’s 97th birthday

LISBON –American Legion Post 158 recently celebrated the 97th birthday of fellow member Douglas Clark, who turned 97 July 2.
Clark is the post’s oldest member.

BOSTON — Monica Beaulieu, of Sabattus, Maine recently earned a master of social work from Simmons College.

Androscoggin County students named to UMaine dean’s list

ORONO — A number of Androscoggin County students made the University of Maine dean’s list for the spring semester.
The university recognized 2,214 students for achieving dean’s list honors, of whom 1,634 are from Maine, 533 are from 31 other states and 47 are from 21 countries other than the U.S.

RCAM accepting donations for August yard sale

LEEDS — Rural Community Action Ministry is now accepting donations for its third “Somewhat Annual” yard sale scheduled Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24 and 25.
The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the RCAM office, 81 Churchill Road.

Pownal student named to Gettysburg College dean’s list

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Chandler Wyman, of Pownal, has been placed on the Gettysburg College dean’s honor list for outstanding academic achievement in the spring 2018 semester.
Students with a quality point average of 3.60 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for a semester’s work are placed on the college’s dean’s honor list.

Lisbon Falls Christian Academy honors 2018 graduate

The commencement exercises for Lisbon Falls Christian Academy were held Saturday, June 9, at Lisbon Falls Baptist Church. The graduate was Karissa Hearst, daughter of Mitzie Waite of Mechanic Falls. The commencement speaker was the Rev. Jonathan Jones, pastor of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church. The title of his message was “Words to Live By,” based on Philippians 1:21 and 2:21. McGee is Lisbon Credit Union Rockstar Award winner

LISBON — Kara McGee is the Lisbon Credit Union’s Rockstar Award Winner for the quarter.
McGee received a trophy, $50, and a paid day off.
