Kay receives Lions Club International Foundation award in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN — Lion Michael Kay of Skowhegan has been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship by Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of his commitment to vision screening, the Speakout Contest and many other Lion contributions throughout the communities of Skowhegan, Madison, Canaan and Anson.

A Lion since 1993, Kay is a member of the Skowhegan Lions Club and has participated in various club projects including American Public Works Association BBQ, Riverfest, Rotary golf barbecue, vision screening, District Speakout Contest chairman, hospice volunteers, Skowhegan State Fair Lions’ food booth, as well as other fundraisers and projects put forth by the Skowhegan Lions Club.
“It is very rewarding to help fulfill community needs, and it is a great honor to be presented with this award,” said Kay.
The Skowhegan Lions Club has 40 members and meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Heritage House Restaurant, 182 Madison Ave., at 6:15 PM. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
