Two storywalks available this summer for young Rangeley readers

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen’s Association and the Rangeley Public Library are both hosting storywalks, for young readers to enjoy the outdoor as well as literature.
The RRG&SA walk is “Animal Hide and Seek,” by Dahlov Ipcar and is along the Tim Baker Nature Trail.

The trail is on the grounds of the RRG&SA Clubhouse and is open through the end of October. The walk complements the book by award-winning Maine author Ipcar, which offers detailed portraits of woodland animals, setting them into their natural setting, camouflaged for the careful reader to find.
Ipcar describes the habits of animals from deer to rabbits, squirrels to salamanders and more. The first edition of the book was published in 1947 and has since been restored and reissued, most recently by Maine’s Islandport Press, emphasizing Ipcar’s crisp colors and bold lines.
In a career spanning 60 years, Ipcar wrote and illustrated more than 30 children and young adult books.

Starting in mid-July and running through mid-September, hikers on the Hatchery Brook Trail will be able to enjoy children’s storybook “Jamberry,” by Bruce Degan.
“Jamberry,” is a children’s book with whimsical drawings and rhyming text celebrating the joys of berry picking. “This book is sure to delight both the young and the young-at-heart as they follow the story as they hike,” library officials said.
Storywalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt., and was developed with the help of Rachel Senechal of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Storywalks have since been developed all over the country. The “Jamberry” storywalk is provided by Rangeley Public Library in conjunction with the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust.
