Reuniting kids with nature, internet safety courses on tap at Rangeley library

RANGELEY — Reuniting kids with nature and internet safety courses are on tap for July 18 and 19 at Rangeley Public Library.
Brad Cook will share a message about reuniting kids with the great outdoors 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the library.

Cook says he was a deeply troubled young man, but after a chance encounter with a stranger who shared his own intriguing story around a campfire one evening, the seed of a dream was planted. That was the spark Cook needed to initiate a complete physical, mental and spiritual transformation — a quest for more, he said.
Cook hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2008. The experience transformed his life and taught him exposure to the natural world may be the crucial missing piece children need in today’s over-scheduled and technology-addicted society.
Rangeley resident Scott Hatfield will share tips on how to stay safe on the internet from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 19.
Hatfield will cover such topics as wireless security, data protection and privacy. Whether you are a veteran computer user or brand new to surfing the web, you will find useful tips in this class to help you stay safe online.
To register for either class, call the library at 207-864-5529 or stop by to sign up for these free programs; tickets for Cook’s inspirational discussion will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. The internet safety class will be limited to 20 participants.
