Minot Historical Society Civil War re-enactment is Aug. 4, 5

MINOT — Minot Historical Society will host its second annual Civil War Encampment at the history house, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4 and 5.
The free event, which is geared to all ages, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at 493 Center Minot Hill Road.

A brief Sunday morning service at 9 a.m., to which the public is invited, will be conducted by a period chaplain.
Visitors will learn how soldiers slept, how they dressed, what military life was like away from home, and tour the historical parsonage and congregational church atop Center Minot Hill.
The historical society will welcome the 5th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, the 15th Alabama, and the 3rd Maine to the event this year. These re-enactment groups love history and talking history and have given their time to make this event a reoccurring success. There will be various military drills, clothing to try on, as well as a Civil War period surgical tent.
Minot Historical Society enjoys putting on events such as these as an outreach to the local community and beyond, sharing history in a tangible way.
A hot dog lunch will be for sale both days, and breakfast will be available to the public Sunday morning. All proceeds go toward the historical parsonage and more events that the society puts on. Donations are always welcome, and the meals are cash only.
