Vocal group Northfield to perform in Skowhegan, Farmington

FARMINGTON — Farmington-based singing group Northfield will continue its tradition of seasonal celebrations with performances in Skowhegan and Farmington.

Northfield will take the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Skowhegan Federated Church, 13 Island Ave., and a3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Nordica Auditorium in Merrill Hall on the University of Maine at Farmington campus. Park in Lot 10 for events at Merrill Hall.

The music, sung in an a cappella style, will include holiday music as well as an eclectic mix of sacred, secular and silly songs. In addition to their usual selections from the early American shape note tradition, Northfield will perform pieces from the European Renaissance, late Romantic and Impressionist period, and several special new-to-their-repertoire, twentieth and twenty-first century selections.

Also special this season, the university’s premier a cappella group, the Clefnotes, will open the concert in Farmington. This performance is supported by the ArtsFarmington organization, promoting and sponsoring a wide variety of arts events in the greater Farmington area.
