Livermore Falls Women’s Club has busy fall, winter

LIVERMORE FALLS — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Livermore Falls Women’s Club met recently at Main Land in Livermore Falls.

Lucille Lavoie gave a report on the election bake sale, with proceeds going to Area Youth Sports. Bonnie Perkins gave her report on activities for Harris House.

Club members have made wheelchair bags, provided bake goods for the Halloween party, added more readers to the volunteer reading program and continue to send cards for holidays and birthdays.

Laura Quinn, program coordinator, and Mary Beane of Healthy Community Coalition from Farmington were guest speakers on nutrition. Information and hand-outs on planning healthy meals for one and two, reading food labels to guide food choices, and comparing prices to find the best buys were some of the topics discussed. Quinn brought an excellent lentil soup she had made for all to enjoy.

The December meeting will be with the Livermore Historical Society at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at LaFleurs restaurant, 224 Main St, Jay. After lunch, Margaret Emery will entertain with holiday music.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, founded in 1890 during the Progressive Movement, is made up of more than 3,000 local women’s clubs promoting civic improvements through volunteer service. Anyone wishing more information on GFWC/LFWC contact Ellen at ggeh@roadrunner.com.
