LIVING SPACE: Tiny house offers big amenities

WATERVILLE – Tiny houses offer the ultimate in downsizing: living space in less than a few hundred square feet. Dave Morrissette, of Waterville, shared these photos of a tiny house built over the past few months at his place of business.

This tiny house has a footprint of 145 square feet, and can sleep four adults. Its total height is 12.75 feet and its width is 8.5 feet wide. There is no need to crawl in the loft catwalk. The house is estimated to weigh from 3,000 to 3,500 pounds and boasts of rigid foam insulation in the floors, walls and ceiling.

Morrissette said, “We designed this tiny house differently than most being built currently. We wanted to keep the weight down so it could be hauled by a light-duty, full-size truck or SUV.”

Solar LED lights can be found throughout as well as a solar panel, charge controller, and new battery. The tiny house has six Anderson windows.

The appliances are new. The electric water heater holds four gallons. There is an electric fireplace heater with thermostat.

The full kitchen was designed to offer an amazing amount of storage by any standards and is custom built with hardwood construction. Tile counter tops, double bowl stainless steel sink, four-burner gas stove with oven and dining area are included.

The bathroom has a custom shower and flush toilet.

There is a built-in custom sleeper couch with storage, hardwood floors, a sleeping loft and a storage loft.

“We put in stairs so it will be easier to get in and out of bed and a walkway so you walk, not crawl when you are upstairs,” said Morrissette.

The exterior is cedar shingle-look vinyl siding. The metal roof has a standing seam.
